Blog City

And so here is my blog...........

A towering sentinel of the woods, having stood for 235 years, falls prey to strong winds during a garden variety thunderstorm.  This particular tree was a ponderosa pine.  It started life out as a tiny seed.  It survived fires, wildlife, weather, and disease for 235 years.  During its life it provided shade to other plants below it allowing them to survive.  It allowed for bald eagles to build a nest and raise their young through several years of nesting.  It conducted lightning many times over its life since it was the tallest tree for miles in the forest.  Birds took shelter in its branches during strong summer storms and cold snowy winter days.  But alas, today in its death, it will provide a home and food to the various fungi, insects, and ground dwelling creatures.  Looking near its base where it once stood for 235 years sprouts a new ponderosa seedling.  Will it survive to be as majestic as its parent?  I think I will sit here on this old stump and contemplate what could be...............new life.
